2014 Durango Art Center Microgrant Awardee

durango arts center microgrant logo I’m delighted to announce the news of being included as a 2014 Durango Art Center Microgrant Awardee.

Here is an excerpt from my proposal:
“The work I’m specifying for this grant application is towards the exploration of multiples and the individuals as a concept, specifically by employing the encaustic medium one wood panel. My intent is to create 6 large format paintings not to exceed 40”x40, or the constraints of the 4’x8’ plywood sheets. The subject matter is both to explore the concept of our collective over usage of the font Arial in our culture and while allowing for the possibility to incorporate other icons in my artistic vocabulary.”

The Durango Art Center Microgrant project has been a very rewarding experience for me and I highly encourage any and all artists living in the southwest Colorado region to consider this wonderful opportunity and take the time to develop a thoughtful grant application for the upcoming year.

About DAC Microgrants
Established by DAC Board Members in 2014, MicroGrants is a visionary funding program for artists in Southwestern Colorado and select counties of Northern New Mexico. Understanding that a financial barrier is oftentimes all that stands in the way of an artists’ next critical step in their career, MicroGrants distributes ten (10) grants totaling $5000 to emerging and established artists, serving as a catalyst to further their work while living and creating in our rural Southwestern communities. This opportunity is open to DAC members as well as non-members. No matter how ambitious or humble the proposal, MicoGrants aims to support innovation, creative development and maintain momentum in artistic careers. DAC seeks to engage local artists and deepen artistic diversity within Durango and the surrounding communities.
